We retired three years ago and planned to travel and housesit, but Covid hit and it delayed this plan until now. We love to get to know a place and our favourite travel method is bicycle touring. We have been lucky enough to have had six awesome housesitters over the past five years and are so happy to finally become housesitters for others. We have been very happily together for 42 years and have lived in five provinces in Canada, enjoying every place that we have been fortunate enough to live.
Our goal as “Peace-Time” are to allow you to peacefully pursue your adventures away from your home without a worry for your home and/or beloved pets. We have owned three beautiful homes in our lives and have just finished fully renovating our current and forever home in Parksville BC. We currently own a little budgie bird that we will entrust to housesitters as we leave our home for a ten week Canadian adventure this spring. We will keep your home pets and attend to anything specific in terms of regular cleaning and ensuring it is done to your expectations. Denis is pretty much a “Jack” of all trades. He can manage most things and/or he knows when to call a professional should something happen that needs quick attention with your home (in consultation with you of course ;-) We are both clean, tidy, conscientious people that enjoy making sure things are as they should be and we will care for your home, as if it were our own.
As to animals, we love animals, we had a house trained bunny that lived 12 years, actually living at home longer than our kids since the kids launched quickly. We’ve been bird owners much of our lives (including now) and we currently have two lovely grand puppies along with four beautiful human grandchildren. As well, we owned two amazing horses for 16 years and Denis and is very knowledgeable about most farm animals as he should likely have been a farmer. We would really enjoy caring for your dogs and the fun of getting out and walking them and maybe taking them on some adventures in the area. Of course, cats often move to their own groove and we can groove with them, and meet their individual needs. We love birds and are certain we will love the chance to care for a feathered or finned fishy friend.
We are passionate about cycling and have done over 6000km of riding on our recumbent trikes in Europe on three separate trips and rode almost 2000km from Halifax to Niagara Falls/Hamilton in summer 2022. We live healthy lifestyles and were marathoners in our past and hope to return to mini triathlons yet in the future. We enjoy hiking and swimming, walking and kayaking, fishing and pretty much any other thing that gets us out there and living life to its fullest. We hope to combine cycle touring and housesitting in the future both in Canada and abroad.
We are keen uses of the “sharing economy” and regularly host bicycle touring guests via Warmshowers, and travellers by any method with The Affordable Travel Club, Evergreen Club, and Couchsurfing amongst some other lesser known organizations. We also ran our Airbnb in Nanaimo and plan to do so again when we are home and stay. We generally just love meeting people, but we also know some folks just need a reliable person to care or a place to stay and thus flexibility in meeting needs is key to great experiences. We recognize that we are new so we don’t have a bunch of references. We do however, have lots of feedback and reviews from our warmshowers and Airbnb profiles. If you belong to these platforms you may be able to see them or we can do some screenshots and you can see some of what we are about, from others. We do not anticipate being paid for our services, nor do we anticipate paying when we open our home to others for housesits. As noted, it is about the sharing economy not a money making venture for us.
When we travel we have a motto which is “the answer is YES” which has led to some great experiences from unexpected offers leading to great memories and stories. We hope to find more stories at your place that are relaxing for you to hear when you arrive home after your own peaceful adventure.
