Career Home Support Aide, Gardener, Farmer: having retired I would like to revisit some of the provinces I’ve lived in over the years.
I currently own and maintain my own tiny home on an acreage in a very rural area, sharing with a retired farm dog, mother cat and two boisterous kittens, four hens and a rooster. Two of the hens and the rooster are rescue pets who decided to get broody and raise chicks.
In previous homes I farmed beef, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens and rabbits. (And a milk cow.) I’ve owned and cared for horses, dogs, cats, finches, and fish all my life.
I’ve been gardening since i was one year old (it’s true). I’ve owned and worked in gardens in BC, AB, SK, PEI, and NB. One of many strengths is my ability to prune fruit trees, shrubs, and roses.
My lifelong peace and joy comes from nature, gardening, and animals. I love the ocean, trees, and wide skies.
During the winter, I garden in a small way with my several houseplants, having best success with a Meyer lemon tree, orchids, and a giant mother geranium. Last year I was able to grow several outdoor plants from my own cuttings, and share these with new friends.
My other hobbies are old time dancing (learning cha cha and Rhumba) and playing the djembi whenever I can.
I became an Aide because I believe people should be allowed to be born, live, and die at home and I was able to help with that in my main career.
My favorite clients were a very elderly man for whom I provided Aide support and caretaking of his large acreage, including a pond, forest, snow removal, gardens and lawns; also a young man, quadriplegic, whom I was honored to assist with his physiotherapy and help him to continue in his own career. Both these jobs were full/part time live-in positions. I’ve also worked as respite care and palliative care.
As your housesitter, I guarantee an excellent relationship with and care of any pets or animals, plants or gardens you put under my care, as if they were my own. Your home will be maintained responsibly and carefully.
