Strathcona was once a separate city but merged with Edmonton. It has a fine mix of shops, nightlife, and restaurants as well as a year-round farmers’ market. it's also the home of the famous Edmonton International Fringe Festival the Alberta New Democrats.
If you’re looking for a neighborhood composed of stately houses, go to Glenora. Its southern end is filled with gated estates looking over the North Saskatchewan River. Some high-end shopping can be had atf the High Street and 124th Street.
Ritchie is an old neighborhood near Strathcona. Most of the residents here have German ancestors who worked at the meat-packing plant that stood on the edge of the Mill Creek Ravine Park. The Old Country Inn Restaurant and K & K Foodliner are part of the German heritage of the area.
