Our home is located in a rural area about a 45 minute drive from a town of around 10,000 and in its catchment area of around 25,000 people. However, there is a general store just 5 minutes away.
We have a 70 acre parcel with two access driveways. About half the land is hay production. The 5 acres around the home is barnyard/pasture area where the animals spend most of their time. There is a barn and numerous outbuildings and fencing through most of the property.
Our home is a small, rustic farmhouse with all the amenities. It is two stories, with the bedrooms upstairs.
The second driveway has a barebones tiny home that we are hoping to upgrade for year round living.
We have a menagerie of animals that are primarily pets. We keep a small number of goats, currently 5, one of which is milked. We have 2 donkeys, 1 mule, and a small horse. We have three geese and 13 chickens that sometimes lay eggs. There are 3 barn cats. We also have 5 dogs that are house/yard dogs and. Bare minimum chores takes some time as they all have routines that are quite specific and keep them calm as pets. Chores include feeding kibbles, hay and supplements, watering, mucking out, walking dogs, checking fences, etc. Upkeep of the property requires some handy sense and more time. The animals are used to spending some time with people as well.
We have about 1 acre in yard that we keep mowed and a garden that requires various amounts of tending.
We have a few trips planned including one in July and one in August. We would like to find someone (or ones) interested in general caretaking and upkeep that could step in while we are away. They would stay in the tiny home except while we are away. Extra work may be available.
The ideal candidate would have
Equipment knowledge/skills for machinery/vehicles
Maintenance/building knowledge/skills
Farm animal experience including basic first aid/animal care
Be dog savvy and able to work with them
Housekeeping/yard works
Be tidy and organized
Be independent and self motivated
Enjoy quiet, rural environments
Physically active/able
