We live in a lovely west coast style home on 10 very private acres in the mountain ridge behind Duncan B.C. There is no bus service/public transport up this way, so a personal vehicle is a must.
Our property line ends on the Trans Canada Trail, so is the perfect location for those interested in hiking/biking...we have two electric mountain-style bikes which will be available for use by sitters. If you're seeking an extremely quiet, private and peaceful setting, in a nice chalet type home in the forest with a mountain view, this is definitely your gig!
We have two well behaved larger sized dogs and my son's tiny dog stays with us much of the time. The dogs get a small amount of food in the morning, then a bigger meal at dinner time.
I'm usually home with them, so they're in the house with me or outside while I work on the property but I usually walk them for 20 minutes or so, 5-6 days per week. They don't mind being left home for the day or eve and behave themselves for the duration, but I'd like to find a sitter who intends on spending most of their time around the property. If there is any occasions wherein you'd plan to be absent for more than 7 hours, or an overnight away, arrangements can be made with my son to come and feed them/let them outside etc. He lives in a small cabin elsewhere on the property and studies from home, so is usually available for assistance.
We also fill the feeders outside every day, for the wild birds and the little indigenous red squirrels that come around.
There are no gardens to care for in the winter, only a few houseplants which require infrequent watering.
There's a hot tub on the property, where guests can soak and watch the stars, especially welcome after a long hike or a bike ride. We have electric heat, but often use our lovely woodstove for that cozy heat which only {as anyone who has lived with one knows} a woodstove can provide.... and there's an ample supply of wood in the wood shed.
One unique aspect of this property is the feeling of absolute peace, tranquility and privacy, a piece of paradise completely remote and far removed from the bright lights and bustling activities of the rest of the world, with no visible signs or sounds of people anywhere, yet within a short 20 minute drive, you can be in the heart of downtown Duncan. It's a rare and special experience.
